How to Change the Grip Tape on Your Floorball Stick – Step by Step

Changing your grip tape is an important part of maintaining your floorball stick and ensuring a secure grip during play. A worn grip can affect both control and technique, so it is important to replace the grip regularly.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to easily change your grip tape, along with answers to some common questions about grip tapes. And don’t miss the guide on how to choose the right floorball stick.

Step 1: Remove the old grip tape

Start by carefully removing the old grip tape from the shaft. Make sure to remove any remaining adhesive or material to create a smooth surface for attaching the new grip.

Heat up old adhesive

If you have difficulty removing all the adhesive, you can use some heat, for example from a hairdryer or heat gun, to soften and loosen stuck material.

Step 2: Prepare the new grip tape

Most grip tapes are universal and fit all floorball sticks, so choose the grip that suits you best. At Innebandy24, you’ll find several popular grip tapes such as Monster2 Grip from Zone, X3M Pro Grip from Salming and Touch Grip from Oxdog.

If the grip has a marked starting point, begin wrapping there. If there are no markings, both ends are identical, meaning you can start from either end.

Remember to remove the protective plastic film before you start wrapping so the adhesive sticks properly to the shaft.

Step 3: Start wrapping from the correct end of the shaft

Always start from the top of the shaft, near the knob, and wrap downward toward the blade. Pull the grip tight enough so it stays in place without creating wrinkles, but not so tight that it negatively affects the feel.

Make sure to keep an even spacing between each wrap, allowing the narrow edge of the grip tape to overlap slightly without creating double layers.

Step 4: Secure the end of the grip

When you reach the end of the shaft, secure the grip using the tape strip that is often included. If no tape is included, you can use electrical tape instead. Make sure it is firmly attached and that the end of the grip is properly secured to prevent it from coming loose during play.

Common questions about changing grip tape

How often should you replace grip tape on a floorball stick?

How often you should replace your grip depends on how frequently you play. For regular players, it is recommended to change the grip every 4–6 weeks or as soon as it starts to feel slippery and worn. If you play less often, replacing it a few times per season may be enough. A good grip is essential for maintaining control of your stick, so don’t wait too long if it starts to feel worn.

Are there any rules regarding grip tape in floorball?

There are no specific rules regarding what type of grip tape you can use, but it is important that the grip is secure and does not slip during play.
By following these simple steps, you can quickly and effectively replace your grip tape and always maintain an optimal grip on your floorball stick.
